Leah Caroline – Scrolls

Wall installation of Scrolls

Scroll with hand made box and inscribed text on box

Leah Caroline was raised in the Chassidic community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. She received her BFA at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts and currently lives and works in New Haven, CT. Her works are nature journals; collections and records of plants, life, and her pregnant self. She makes cyanotype scrolls—an early photographic printing process used to record nature and make blueprints—as well as scanner photograms, and drawings. She often includes Hebrew texts, especially of Song of Songs, as well as her own writings. Caroline’s exhibits include solo exhibitions and a commission by Artspace Inc. for site-responsive work for City Wide Open Studios in New Haven, CT. Caroline has been an artist in residence, including at Weir Farm in Wilton, CT and with Art Kibbutz on Governors Island.
