About Hakhel: This Hebrew year of 5776 is called Shnat Hakhel. During Temple times it was observed by a Royal National Assembly in the Beit HaMikdash. The entire nation, men, women and children would gather together on the second day of the festival called Sukkot to listen to the Torah scroll being read. Participating in this unique septennial national convocation was the source of incredible inspiration that carried the people forward and brought them abundant divine blessings.

In these days of Golut (exile), we no longer have the opportunity to fulfill this commandment literally. However, the Lubavitcher Rebbe suggested that in our time we can utilize every opportunity available – all year long – to promote Jewish unity through unique Torah-focused inspirational gatherings.
