From the Vatican to Or Zarua: Mark Podwal

“Printed Matters,” the latest exhibition by renowned artist Mark Podwal is on view at Or Zarua, 127 E 82nd Street, NYC

The exhibition of prints and works on paper coincides with the publication of an extensive monograph Reimagined: 45 Years of Jewish Art by Mark Podwal.
 

Podwal’s The Terezin Portfolio has been acquired by the Pontificia University Urbaniana, Vatican City.

The Terezin Portfolio, “ALL THIS HAS COME UPON US…”, includes 42 archival pigment prints of acrylic, gouache and colored pencil works on paper exhibited at the Terezin Ghetto Museum from April to July 2014. The artworks are disturbing reminders of how Europe’s long history of anti-Semitism laid the groundwork for the Holocaust.

In addition to the Pontificia University Urbaniana, among the institutions worldwide, which have acquired the portfolio are the Bodleian Library at Oxford, British Library, Library of Congress, US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Institute for Advanced Study, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Memorial de la Shoah in Paris, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, National Library of Israel, Hebrew University, Yad Vashem, Jewish Museum of Florida, University of California at Berkeley, Lehigh, Syracuse, Cornell, Yeshiva University Museum, Temple University, Jewish Theological Seminary, Middlebury College, Terezin Ghetto Museum, University of Vermont, University of Toronto, Duke University, Queens College, Temple Emanu-El in New York, among others.

The Terezin Portfolio edition # 50/60, was donated to the The Pontificia University Urbaniana Library by Dr. Donna Reva Kesselman in honor of her husband John Joseph Raggio. Dr. Donna Reva Kesselman is Jewish and the daughter of Holocaust survivors. Her husband John Joseph Raggio is Catholic.
