Anolic Awards: Calls for Book Art and for Early Career Artists

The Anolic Family Art Awards is now accepting applications for the 2017 award cycle. There are three awards for Jewish artists: one for art students, one for early career fine artists (25-35 yrs) and one for professional book artists.

Established in 1980, the Anolic Family Awards have been given to Jewish artists and scholars with a wide array of talents and goals, who have used these awards as an opportunity to further their artistic practice, studies and Jewish cultural knowledge.

The 2017 Naomi Anolic Early Career Jewish Visual Arts Award

Intended to support and provide momentum for Jewish artists who are early in their artistic careers and who would benefit from the support and recognition this award would provide. An applicant for the Naomi Anolic Award will have demonstrated great potential in their practice, but not yet have achieved broad success or be considered well established professionally.

The 2017 cycle of this award will focus on PAINTING AND DRAWING. AMOUNT OF AWARD: $750

Active, early career Jewish visual artists between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-five may apply.

The 2017 Isaac Anolic Memorial Jewish Book Arts Award
The sum of $1,500 will be awarded towards the creation of a unique, one-of-kind, or limited edition work of art in the field of Jewish book arts.

Book Arts refers to works of art that originates from a relationship to the book form, ranging from scrolls, accordion-style, illuminated manuscripts, graphic novels or hand-bound printed sheets, as well as hand-made paper, newspapers, comics, ephemera, deconstructed books, photographs, etc.

Jewish Book Arts refers to a work that relates in some way to the greater world of Jewish writings, religion, Jewish thought, history or culture and how words appear in the Jewish tradition. Possible reference points could include: Prayer books, the mezuzah, the ketubbah, Jewish history, sacred texts, the haggadah, etc.

All active, professional Jewish artists who have exhibited within the last five years are eligible to apply.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 16th, 2017.
