Mierle Laderman Ukeles talk at the Israel Museum

On Art and Words: Exhibition curator Mira Lapidot in conversation with artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, marking the 50th anniversary of her groundbreaking Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969!

According to an article in the New Yorker: “Near the top of the list of inspired manifestos—Futurism, Dada, De Stijl—is Mierle Laderman Ukeles’s little-known “Maintenance Art.” As a first-time mother in 1969, she grew frustrated by the schism between her domestic life, with its boredoms and joys, and her identity as a New York artist.” Article here.

From a Jewish perspective one could describe this body of work as a tikkun olam project.
