Mierle Laderman Ukeles talk at the Israel Museum

On Art and Words: Exhibition curator Mira Lapidot in conversation with artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, marking the 50th anniversary of her groundbreaking Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969!

Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 6 pm, in the exhibition gallery, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem

In conjunction with the exhibition Julian Rosefeldt: Manifesto

According to an article in the New Yorker: “Near the top of the list of inspired manifestos—Futurism, Dada, De Stijl—is Mierle Laderman Ukeles’s little-known “Maintenance Art.” As a first-time mother in 1969, she grew frustrated by the schism between her domestic life, with its boredoms and joys, and her identity as a New York artist.” Article here.

From a Jewish perspective one could describe this body of work as a tikkun olam project.

The event will be held in English| Place is limited; please reserve by calling (02) 670-8960 or 677-1302
