JEWISH ART SALON is excited to invite you to Contemporary Artists’ Vision of Biblical Narratives the next live session of our successful online series OPEN STUDIOS.

Our featured artists will be Archie Rand, Richard McBee and Robert Brandwayn. These three contemporary artists will discuss their studio practice, process and the inherent challenges of working with Biblical narratives and themes.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Archie Rand

Archie Rand (b. 1949) is an artist from Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Rand received his BFA in cinegraphics from the Pratt Institute, and also studied at the Art Student’s League of New York. His first exhibition was in 1966, at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery (NYC) and he has since had over 100 solo and over 200 group exhibitions.  Mr. Rand’s work is in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.  His recent book The 613 was lauded in the NY Times. Currently he is the Presidential Professor of Art at Brooklyn College.

Robert Brandwayn

With a B.A. in music and international relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and studies in Art from The Ecole du Louvre in Paris, Robert Brandwayn’s work aims to understand how resilience, solidarity, and the creative spirit help migrant groups survive and thrive despite the interruption and longing being a migrant entails. Brandwayn’s works have been exhibited in museums and galleries in many countries including Colombia, Venezuela, China, and the United States. He was the winner of the Guest Artist Award during the New Artist in Japan exhibit at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2019.www.brandwaynart.com. Instagram: @brandwaynart

Richard McBee

Richard McBee is a painter of Biblical subject matter concentrating on the most troubling and contentious Torah narratives, especially those that explore the role of women from unorthodox perspectives. He continues to write about Jewish Art, exhibit paintings, lecture and curate Jewish art exhibitions as a founding member of the Jewish Art Salon.
