Ben Schachter has published his second graphic novel, Binder Bound and the Mizbeyach.
It is the story of the Akedah (Binding of Isaac), but the text comes from a 12th century Sefardi Poem, Et Shaare Ratson. The poem was written by Rabbi Yehuda ben Shmuel ibn Abbas and is sung on Rosh Hashanah by Sefardi communities all over the world.
Schachter was drawn to the poem because it begins with Abraham’s perspective and then shifts to Isaac as he calls out, “Tighten my bonds. Sharpen the knife.”
