Vector Artist Initiative (VAI) is accepting submissions for an online group exhibit opening Monday, May 6, 2024, and is inviting artists of all faiths and cultures to submit their work for consideration. Their call for art: We are looking for artwork with thoughtful content which inspires and informs ways to use kindness in our daily lives as a mechanism to counter hate speech and promote civil society. What can we do as individuals? What can we do as groups? Exhibition Statement Misery and hatred are the products of a toxic mix of intolerance, supremacism, and an unwillingness to listen to what others have to say. When convinced of their own superiority, people lose the ability to respect others’ ideas or ways of living. Hillel: Radical Kindness has evolved from Vector Artist Initiative’s previous exhibits, On the Consequences of Hate Speech I-IV, which were shown in Canada, the Bay Area, New York City. OCHS as well as Radical Kindness can be viewed on our website at: http://www.vectorartistinitiative.com/ To prepare for the new exhibit series, Vector co-founders Robin Atlas and Nancy Current, together with artists Shoshannah Brombacher and Karey Kessler, read and studied Yitzhak Buxbaum’s book, The Life and Teachings of Hillel. Brombacher, who is also a recognized maggid (storyteller and teacher), was already quite familiar with Hillel and his teachings and had recommended the book to the group. Our studies resulted in the first group show of this series, currently on tour through the Spring, 2024 in the Bay Area. How different was Hillel’s attitude! He drew more people toward him with his spoonful of honey than others did with their barrel of vinegar, showing kindness to everyone, even those who disrespected him, and changed them for the better. Hesed (kindness), like Gevurah (strength), is one of the mystical ten Sefirot, the attributes of HaShem. In this world we need Gevurah, but we need Hesed even more. Striving for social justice through Hesed is one way of doing Tikun Olam (repairing the world). We hope you will join us in a creative response to this urgent social situation. | SUBMISSION GUIDELINES ● Professional artists at all stages of their career are invited to submit ● 2d and 3d work in any medium (traditional and non-traditional) will be considered ● Work should be created within the last five (5) years ● Artist may submit up to three (3) high resolution jpeg images of your work not smaller than 600 px x 600 px and a title list with the artist’s name, title of artwork, creation date, medium and dimensions. If the work is for sale please include the price. If inquiries are made, we will refer them directly to the artist. No commission will be taken on sales made in connection with this exhibition. ● Your CV ● A short bio (not longer than two paragraphs) ● A paragraph (100 words max) for each piece describing how it relates to the theme of kindness. NOTE: For submissions of 2D and 3D work, please send jpegs only. Please do not submit sound and video submissions longer than 5 minutes. Submission is free and open to all artists.
