Amy Krause, executive producer and director of a documentary that explores and celebrates Jewish culture through the lenses of the satirical, academic, Latke Hamantash Debate, wants to collaborate with Jewish artists and illustrators.
Trailer:
Searching for vibrant contemporary art featuring:
– Scenes of Jewish culture
– Family rituals and traditions,
– Cooking and baking (specifically latkes and hamantaschen),
– Holidays, (specifically Hanukkah and Purim)
– Humor and debate.
Existing art is preferred, with the potential of creating a few pieces specifically for the film.
The art would be licensed for use in the film and promotional materials in exchange for screen credit and the opportunity to participate in a film about a debate that has captured the minds and imagination of so many.
When the first Latke-Hamantash Debate was held, it wasn’t merely for semi-cerebral yuks. It was a way to stand up and proudly celebrate Jewish heritage, while at the same time humanizing our to culture to others through humor. Capturing how food, family, and tradition truly unite a people. And reminding us, that in the end, these are the same ties that unite us all. Today, nearly 80 years later, the world needs to be reminded of this same lesson. Perhaps now more than ever.
Once the film is complete, it will be made available as a fundraising vehicle, to any non-profit with goals of community building through open dialog and debate.
