Ellen Alt – Murals


Ellen Alt’s art work is grounded in her rich background in socially engaged art which grew out of her belief that facilitating the creative process is as vital as her studio practice. Premised on the idea of art as a tool that is accessible to all and a shared language across social and political divides, Ellen has worked for decades on community-based art projects across the globe. Noteworthy projects include mural and concrete play sculpture created in collaboration with underserved youth and in partnership with local crime prevention police officers in Waltham, MA; murals created in Gnana Deepam Center for Special Education in Chennai, India, in collaboration with staff, residents and local art students for a community center for people with special needs; multiple initiatives with Seeds of Peace and the Peres Peace Center Israel which brought together Palestinian and Israeli youth.


Ellen Alt is an artist, educator and art activist. Ms. Alt has exhibited her mixed media artwork in the U.S, Israel, Germany, Russia, China and England. She is currently the Artist-in-Residence at the Park Avenue Synagogue and the Art Coordinator at the Schechter Manhattan. From 2011 – 2018 she was a faculty member of the Education Department at Brandeis University.

Ellen Alt also facilitates art projects that bring people together to tap into their creativity, achieve organizational and personal goals and beautify spaces. She has a BFA in art education from the Massachusetts College of Art and an MA in studio art from New York University.
