Emunah: Faith of the Sage Bamboo, Mixed Media on paper, 21 x 37, 2010 This mixed media piece utilizes the bamboo as a metaphor for faith. Did you know that you must water the bamboo every day for four years before it will break ground, but once it does, it grows to sixty feet in ninety days? These are the words written all over the background, appearing in English, Hebrew and Japanese. In the end, after four years of faith, the bamboo becomes the most beautiful, self-sustainable, and strong of all trees and plants. In fact, in Asia, it is used as scaffolding for skyscrapers rather than steel. Therein lies the universal theme and life-affirming importance of holding onto faith.
