This year, Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, will be celebrated for the 2,188th time. As the Menorah shines out into the night of the public domain, it symbolically proclaims, and literally and physically demonstrates, the power of a tiny bit of light — the light inside each and every one of us — to dispel a whole lot of darkness. But ten billion souls shine in ten billion different ways. And so the miracle and message of the Chanukah lights cannot reach full expression until every single person is able to identify his and her individual Divine spark, as well as the medium — and the media —through which to fully capture and reveal it.
Enter Yitzchok Moully, of Moully Art studios, an Australian child-of-hippies-turned-rabbi-turned-artist, who has made it his life’s mission to expand the artistic within the Chasidic. To draw from the breath of life within every Jewish teaching and observance, and give vital expression to every living breathing soul.
Chanukah 2017 was a turning point in his work. It was that year that Moully embarked on a journey to broaden and brighten the spectrum of the “public menorah” concept. This year Moully is turning it up a notch with his most ambitious project yet: The Public Art Menorah.The Public Art Menorah stands as a symbol of spiritual resilience and modern elegance. At 10 feet tall, this striking Menorah blends timeless tradition with contemporary design, making it a powerful focal point of Jewish pride for any Chanukah celebration and beyond. Crafted in the USA from durable powder-coated aluminum, the Menorah features programmed state-of-the-art LED lighting at the apex of each arm, while its base is equipped with ten LED spotlights lighting its unique form from below.
This modern masterpiece is both versatile and functional, suitable for seasonal displays or permanent installations. The Public Art Menorah is not only visually captivating but also designed for ceremony and participation. It includes nine stainless steel oil and wick torches, making it perfect for ceremonial lighting events.
In line with the holiday’s theme to always increase in light, Moully transitioned this year from building a single, one-of-a-kind Chanukah installation to producing eight of these magnificent menorahs. They are on display this holiday season at Jewish centers across New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida.
