The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Waltuch Art Gallery, located at 411 E. Clinton Avenue in Tenafly, NJ presents:
Visualizing Spirituality, an exhibition of acrylic and ink works on canvas together with augmented reality by artist Yitzchok Moully.
The show will be on display from May 1 -28, with a Meet-the-Artist-Reception on Tuesday, May 9, 6:30-8:30 pm, where the artist will hold a special talk about his work called: Visualizing Spirituality – The Power of Our Actions.
Yitzchok Moully, who served as a Rabbi for ten years before he discovered his artistic talents and turned to art full time, creates distinctive pieces of contemporary Jewish art that combine the bright, bold colors prevalent in pop art with the timeless and sophisticated images of Judaica and the Jewish people. His aim is to evoke themes from Torah, Kaballah and Chassidut. and make them relevant to a modern generation. His current focus is to illustrate the hidden energy behind our actions.
In this new series Moully utilizes the strong contrast of stark silkscreen images with free flowing liquid paint to highlight our relationship with the spiritual energy of our actions.
“I believe that Mitzvahs have a cosmic impact and the power to send spiritual energy into the world,” says Moully. “My hope is to bring this hidden power to life in my work through a variety of mediums and technology.
Moully attempts to visualize these reactions with paint, then goes a step further using the technology of augmented reality to convey this idea. Using a device as a prism through which to see that which we can not see with the naked eye.
The public is invited to come in person to interact and explore this new body of work.
“I am always drawn to exploring ways that Judaism, art and contemporary culture intersect and I create art that represents and reflects my deep love of Judaism from a new and unique perspective.”
Selected works (due to their size and dimensions) will only be on display during the opening reception.
Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 9 am – 10 pm; Friday and Sunday, 9 am – 5 pm; closed Saturday and Jewish holidays. Admission is free and open to the community.
