Ellen Holtzblatt was born in 1957 and is based in Chicago.  She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with degrees in Visual Art and Art Therapy
Holtzblatt has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows in Chicago, New York, Berlin and Los Angeles.

Selected solo exhibitions 

“From Birth to Memory” at Josef Glimer Gallery in Chicago (2014), “Memory and Birds” at The Chicago Cultural Center (2014) and “Under the Wings: Birds From the Field Museum” at the Harold Washington Library in Chicago.

Selected group exhibitions

“As Subject and Object: Contemporary Book Artists Explore Ancient Hebrew Texts” at the Museum of Biblical Art in New York (2013), “Zerstreut in Alle Welt” at Inselgalerie in Berlin (2011) and “Multiple, Limited, Unique: Highlights from the Permanent Collection of the Center for Book Arts” at the Center for Book Arts in New York (2011).  Her work is in private and public collections, including the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection in Chicago, the Center for Book Arts in New York and the Jewish Federation of Saint Joseph Valley in South Bend, Indiana.

Holtzblatt received the Illinois Arts Council Professional Development Grant in 2013 and CAAP Grants from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in 2011, 2005 and 2004.

Ellen Holtzblatt is represented by Josef Glimer Gallery in Chicago.
