The Heller Museum in NYC issued the following call for art:
August 2024 to September 2025
Celebration!
Curator: Phyllis Freedman
Dear Artist,
What marks an event for you? How would you express the essential value of “joie de vivre”? At a time when there is so much troubling news in the world, the Heller Museum is conceiving an exhibition for the 2024-2025 academic year that will focus on the opportunities for joining together in celebration. We envision a show that explores how and why we rejoice throughout the year.
Festivity is experienced throughout all ethnic and faith group cultures. Major life cycle occasions such as a new baby, coming of age, weddings and anniversaries, as well as the milestones of graduation, the first job, promotion, retirement, and even that first driver’s license or a win by our favorite sports team are imbued with vim and vigor. We celebrate national celebrations such as Juneteenth, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and many more.
Celebrations promote contentment and meaning and are also building blocks of happiness. Food, ritual, attire, music, family, friends, and community are all integral to these key moments. Celebrations express the optimism that infuses traditions and the universal human spirit.
The exhibition will include all fine art media, preferably wall-mounted or small sculptures. Think about what you can conceptualize. Please feel free to call or write Phyllis Freedman at any time if you wish to discuss your ideas and plans.
Please include an image if available or sketch of proposed work
All work should be signed, dated and framed, if possible.
The exhibition will include all fine art media, preferably wall mounted. We also consider small sculpture.
