The Elie Wiesel Foundation is excited to announce the Mark Podwal Prize, honoring the enduring legacy of Jewish identity and the profound friendship between renowned artist and Jewish Art Salon member Mark Podwal and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel through a special visual art contest.
This contest invites artists to explore themes of heritage, memory, resilience, and human connection.
Inspired by the deep personal and artistic bond between Podwal and Wiesel—whose collaborations gave visual voice to Jewish history, faith, and hope—participants are encouraged to create works that reflect their own interpretations of Jewish identity and the power of friendship in shaping our stories.
Submissions may include painting, drawing, mixed media, digital art, or any visual form that speaks to the heart of these themes. Through this contest, we aim to celebrate not only Jewish tradition and culture but also the way creative partnerships—like that of Podwal and Wiesel—can illuminate shared truths and inspire generations.
Let your art be a testament to memory, meaning, and the beauty found in connection.
1st Prize ($18,000), 2nd Prize ($7,200), 3rd Prize ($3,600)
Entrants must be 18+ and a resident of the US. Submissions that do not meet the rules and guidelines will be ineligible.
Deadline for Submissions November 2025
