Artist Statement

Lisa Link is a photo-based artist who lives and works in Boston, MA. Her art projects — heavily influenced by tikkun olam — explore labor rights, ageism, water pollution, and climate change. Her photomontage exhibit on reproductive rights from a Jewish feminist perspective, Warnings, toured nationally for over ten years and was positively reviewed by art critic/activist/curator Lucy R. Lippard.

After earning an MFA in photography, Lisa taught at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, in Pittsburgh, PA where she co-led public art projects on billboards and public buses. In Boston, Lisa began her WordWrap series of community-engaged prints for public exhibits in Alaska, Maine and Massachusetts. For several years, she has made photo portrait text/image prints for Que Lindo Boston produced by Blanca Bonilla.

Inspired by a family member who is a Boston EMT, Lisa created Signs of the Times. This heart-themed piece was displayed inside and outside the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The artwork was a tribute to those who shouldered so much of the burden fighting COVID-19—the workers who couldn’t telecommute to their jobs.

The Tree of Life shooting motivated Lisa to actively address antisemitism through her art. She immersed herself in researching antisemitism and photo-documenting community response to hate. She began to create photomontage art exclusively for social media. Lisa launched Art Against Antisemitism on Instagram which centers content around an artist feature series as a collective witness to our times.

Lisa is grateful to all supporters of her art projects especially:

The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) and the CAM Emma Lazarus Award, New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Creative City Program, Waterville Creates!, Trout Unlimited, Kennebec Valley Chapter, Upstream, Sitka National Historical Park, University of Alaska Museum of the North, Puffin Foundation Award, Barbara Deming Memorial Fund Grant, and the City of Boston Paintbox program.
