This fascinating documentary by Jaroslav Hovorka offers a glimpse into the creative process behind Mark Podwal’s remarkable exhibit at the Ghetto Museum at the Terezín Memorial.

In 2014, the Ghetto Museum at the Terezín Memorial showcased 42 of Mark Podwal’s paintings and drawings, each a disturbing reminder of how Europe’s extensive history of “Jew-hatred” laid the groundwork for the Holocaust. View a small exhibit of this art at the evening’s event.

About Mark Podwal’s Art.

All 42 original works of art by Mark Podwal have been published as archival pigment prints, each set housed in a custom-made archival case. These portfolios have been acquired by JTS, Hebrew University, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Library of Congress, Princeton University, Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, and the National Library of Israel, among others.

About Mark Podwal

Mark Podwal may have been best known for his drawings on the New York Times Op-Ed page, but he is also the author (The Decline and Fall of the American Empire with Peter Fonda) and illustrator of numerous books (works by Elie Wiesel, Harold Bloom, and Francine Klagsburn). Many of these works focus on Jewish legend, history, and tradition. Mark Podwal’s art is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, Israel Museum, and Library of Congress.
