Ardsley Service Plaza, NYS Thruway
Diana Kurz painting, “The Hudson River Downtown, Triptych” was chosen to be reproduced as a large scale image printed on canvas as a permanent installation at the Ardsley Service Plaza. This is the first service station on the New York State Thruway north of NYC, located on I-87 between exits 6A and 7 (open 24 hours).
This piece is part of a series of works inspired by time Kurz spent on a boat on the Hudson River anchored not far from downtown Manhattan. Kurz was intrigued by the verticality of the buildings and the density of the city view contrasted with the horizontal feeling and spaciousness of the river
The triptych was shown in her large exhibition Wien – New York – Wien at Palais Porcia in Vienna in 2015.
When recently visiting the site, Kurz was please to learn that people often photograph themselves in front of the piece.
