The Developing Jewish Museum In Buffalo Presents: The Torah In The Tarot
The exhibition features the 22 Major Arcana of the Noblet Tarot de Marseille alongside guided explorations of embedded Judaic references and historical context.
Through Hebrew letters, Torah narratives, ritual imagery, and symbolic interpretation, this exhibition reconsiders tarot as a visual language shaped by storytelling, spirituality, survival, and cultural continuity. Artist Stav Appel’s research suggests these cards may have even functioned as a discreet educational tool during periods of religious persecution and the Inquisition.
A second featured program took place on June 21; guided by Stav Appel, the event offered a hands-on illuminating evening of interactive exploration and guided study, exploring symbolism and hidden meanings within tarot tradition.
Currently, the Jewish Museum of Buffalo (JMB) is open 20 hours a week.
