IMAGES-A Journal of Jewish Art and Visual Culture

The Jewish Art Salon is mentioned in this in-depth, 18-page article by art historian Matthew Baigell in Images Magazine. He writes about the Salon’s co-founder, Yona Verwer’s immersion / mikvah painting series, as well as her role as founding director of the Jewish Art Salon.

A paywall prevents us from sharing the article, so here is just one short quote:
“The Salon sponsors lectures, and it organizes and participates in national and international exhibitions. Within the history of Jewish-themed art in the United States, Verwer is one of the most significant contemporary figures in a line of visual arts administrators and/or artists who have established organizations and exhibited works of Jewish artists for over a century.”

Matthew Baigell is professor emeritus of art history at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. He has written many books and articles on Jewish American and mainstream American art since the late 1960s.

The Philadelphia Jewish Exponent

“As the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art welcomes its 50th anniversary this year, the organization is opening a new show that may very well be one of its most important installations yet.

Called “Fallout: October 7 and the New Antisemitism,” the show explores the effects of the terrorist attacks in Israel in the fall of 2023 and how the world has changed since. The exhibition is being put on in collaboration with the Jewish Art Salon.” Continue article here.
