About the Presenters:

Israeli-born artist Hagit Cohen creates site specific installations that are made with printed imagery on silk, satin and meshed fabrics. These installations act as “sacred spaces” inviting the viewer to dwell in the realm between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Hagit hold an MFA in Imaging Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she also taught fine art photography for several years. Hagit has exhibited her artwork in Tel Aviv, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. Her latest show at the David Brower Center, Hazel Wolf Gallery, examines the importance of connecting people to wilderness as a vehicle for them to appreciate, understand, and ultimately protect the natural environment. In 2021 she was awarded a year fellowship with LABA East Bay, a contemporary Jewish cultural laboratory, aiming to inspire the creation of art, dialogue, and study. Hagit lives in Berkeley, CA.

Carol Neiger was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Neiger’s paintings and prints explore the connection between memory, inherited memory, and place. Her work also explores the power of nature to heal us and our critical responsibility to take care of our world.

A year-long fellowship with Spertus Institute Midwest Artists’ Lab culminated in an exhibition with eleven artist-fellows on Judaism and wisdom. Wishing to continue to collaborate and meet, they cofounded the Jewish Artists Collective Chicago. JACC is a group of multidisciplinary artists connected through common heritage and committed to sharing ideas, enriching practices, and creating dialogue with the community.
