EVERY PROTECTION, work by Debra Olin at The Museum at Eldridge Street, October 14 – April 24, 2022
This exhibition includes 9 large monoprints in the museum as well as From the Oral Torah an installation hanging from the ceiling of the women’s balcony of the synagogue.
The Every Protection series was inspired by the ethnographic work of S. An-sky, an author, playwright and researcher of Jewish folklore and tradition. Undertaking a study he called “The Jewish Ethnographic Program”, An-sky set out to document Jewish Life in the Russian Pale of Settlement between 1912-1914.
He compiled an extensive questionnaire, covering every aspect of the life cycle. The artwork in Every Protection explores the queries dealing with pregnancy and childbirth.
