Curated by Anne Trauben, a selection of over 30 works from Carole Kunstadt’s Sacred Poem and Old Testament Series will be featured in The Divine and Sublime.

Kunstadt’s works reference the material of books, deconstructing paper and text, and using it in metaphorical ways. Her devotion to books is inspired by the ability of the written word to take the reader to other places through stories, poems, and prayers. Kunstadt’s process reveals how language can become visual through re-interpretation.
Kunstadt is exhibiting a selection from her Old Testament Series – 1904 family heirloom Bible cut into triangular and cubic forms evocative of Jung’s sacred geometry. As a collective grouping, they offer a presentation wherein they are interrelated yet are also self-contained. The interplay of depth, volume, surface, and structure engage and intrigue while being non-specific. They stand as an inculcation of their transformation.
Also exhibited is a comprehensive selection from her ongoing series Sacred Poems. The pages of an antique book of psalms are reconstructed, forming a series of works which are a celebration of life and the beauty that contained within. The aged paper suggests the temporal quality of our lives and the vulnerability of memory and history. The paper itself gains significance through the process and merges with a new intent resulting in a presentation that evokes an ecumenical offering: poems of praise and gratitude.
DRAWING ROOMS is a non-profit art gallery and art center in a 10-room exhibition space in a former convent in Downtown Jersey City, NJ, accessible via PATH Train (Grove St Stop) or by car (very close to the Holland Tunnel).
